There are many Zoos around the world and each of them has attractions that are special or unique. Our Singapore Zoo is no different. So allow us to present to you the top 10 things that make the Singapore Zoo Special.

10 The toilets

The “open zoo” concept is clearly extended to even its’ toilets. Yes, you are not misreading, those are open-concept wash rooms. And mind you, they have won awards:

Restroom Association (Singapore), Happy Toilet Award 2003, 5-star Award for cleanliness, functionality and creativity

9 Open exhibit, free ranging animals

Watch out, an Orang Utan is swinging towards you!! Well, that’s not some rare scene in our Zoo. The zoo adopts the open exhibit concept, so there are very few visible cages or railings to separate the animals from you. It’s like a safari where you see animals roaming around in their natural habitat. It’s a role model of the ‘open zoo’ concept. Even Steve Irwin, the “Crocodile Hunter”, greatly admired the Zoo. He was at the Singapore Zoo in 2006 to officiate the opening of the Australian outback exhibit.

8 Wonderful kids’ world
Wonderful kids world
The recently opened Kids’ world sits right next to the reservoir. There are many things for the kids to play, from slides, swings, pulling boats, and most fun of all, the water play. While children run and scream and have great fun in the splashing water, parents can chill out with a cup of coffee or an ice cream by the reservoir in the setting sun. Oh boy, what a way to spend a day with the “little monsters”!

7 Handicap friendly

The zoo is designed for everybody to get around easily. With every stairway, there is a slope for the handicapped. There are also spaces reserved for wheelchairs at the animal exhibits and the show places.

6 Blind friendly

There are braille scripts for the blind at the animal exhibits, helping people with visual difficulties understand what is on display.

5 Baby friendly

Strollers for rent at the Zoo’s entrance, easy roads for parents to push their babies or toddlers around, reserved spaces for strollers at the animal exhibits…. It just can’t get any easier for parents with young children here.

4 Multi-language
Being a multi-racial, multi-cultural society, Singapore is always aware of the need for presentation in different languages, and the Zoo is no exception. On top of English, animal exhibits also come with Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Malay descriptions. There is no excuse not to read and absorb more knowledge ;) .

31 Many rest areas

There are many rest areas for visitors to rest their legs, sit down and enjoy the serenity of the surrounding. And… that makes the Zoo a great place for dating couples too, as there is no lack of privacy here ?.

21 River cruise

A tiny country, Singapore is not able to boast much about its rivers or lakes. But the Zoo now offers a river cruise, which brings you to the peaceful reservoir water. It’s surprisingly refreshing and mind-calming, despite the fact that the water area is actually man-made

11 It’s a big garden
bird nest
It’s a big tropical garden in our garden city. The lush greenery provides shade all over the zoo, and there are many different kinds of flowers blooming at every corner. Look carefully, you may even find a cute little bird’s nest right under your nose, with tiny chicks resting inside. The landscaping is so beautiful that you don’t feel like you are in a zoo at all.

With this we have come to the end of the Singapore Zoo series. We hoped you enjoyed this special coverage. We will be bringing you a brand new series really soon. Stay tuned.
