SGTOP10 Interview Series – 10 mins with a Ghost Whisperer

I was having an online chat with Yours Truly one of the evenings last week when we suddenly stumbled across the topic of the Hungry Ghost Month. I came to realize that Yours Truly is able to see and sense our friends from the other dimension. YoursTruly started sharing some of the experiences with me and an idea came across my mind. Lets do a interview series and share it with our SGTOP10 readers! I quickly drafted out the questions for YoursTruly and if you have read SGTOP10 recent article on the 7th lunar month, treat this as the follow up post for this spooky month. But beware, because you will never know if someone beside you is reading this together with YOU…

SGTOP10: Care to intro and share with our readers what special skills you have?

SGTOP10: When did you first notice you can connect with the spiritual world?
YT: I am possibly the first of my generation to possess the ability of the 3rd Eye, though there are rumours that my mother and my cousin possessed the same ability too when they were young. However most likely I am the only one whose ability did not fade away as age slowly claimed away our innocence.

I was probably around six at least when I realise that sometimes I can see special people who don’t quite seem to fit into the normal spectrum of visibility. I discovered also a certain kinship and perhaps bond with the elemental spirits, whom were all but manifestations of the Goddess.

SGTOP10: Do they look just like us?
YT: Yes they look like ordinary folk like you and I, albeit in a very translucent faint kind of way.

SGTOP10: Can you communicate with them?
YT: If I make the effort, yes through dreams and empathy. Regretfully I am not medium trained and thus I lacked the proper tools and methods to make actual communication with them.

What I receive from them are bits and pieces of scattered emotions I pick up

SGTOP10: Can you share one of the more pleasant experiences?
YT: Well I won’t exactly call this “pleasant”, but I was able to help a friend move pass his grief over his mum’s passing away.

Most friends know that I generally avoid going to funerals if I can help it. However for this particular instance, I was blackmailed emotionally by a group of angry friends into going.

As I approach the altar to offer joss sticks, I saw his mother standing right beside it. She was bathed in the most calm and gentle golden light ever. Her smile instantly put me at ease and soothed away any hesitations I might have in coming to the funeral. The aura of the whole being was simply peaceful.

I told my group of friends what I saw, and upon their urging, decided to tell this to my grieving friend. I was very hesitant at first because I don’t want to be seen as being offensive and talking nonsense as this particular friend do not know of my ability at all.

I told him what I saw and that his mum was very much at peace now, and he cracked a little and said that he was glad as his mum had been battling cancer for years. It was then also I realised that it must have been a relief for her when she finally passed on.

SGTOP10 : Can you share one of the most frightening experience?
YT: During one sojourn to Taman Jurong for very late night supper, my girlfriend, her boyfriend and I were in the car on our way back when I told him to make a right turn. The boyfriend insisted that he saw a “signboard” earlier which says to make a left turn.

I snapped and said that I live around this area and that I know the area more than he does.

The stubborn man ignored my instructions and turned left, right into the heart of a cemetery. And it was around 3am. AND it was one of the days within the Hungry Ghost Festival.

Immediately I almost choked over the immense psychic aura(yin qi) that washed over me like a tidal wave. I saw scores and scores of screaming people running towards the car and I was absolutely stunned. To give you a rough picture of how it looked like, imagine yourself in the middle of the stadium and all around you throngs and throngs of people running towards you screaming.

I screamed at once and tried to cover my ears and my head in an effort to drown out the sound and the aura. I was all but hysterical in the car while my girlfriend who know of my ability did her best to calm me down. Later she told me that she was terrified of what was happening to me which also meant something unseen happening!

Her boyfriend was frightened too but unfortunately the road was too narrow to make a turn back, and he was forced to go deeper and deeper into the cemetery.

Of course it got worse and worse and my screams in the car echoed painfully as I tried to dismiss the images and sound. Sadly there was no way to ignore the aura as I screamed till my voice was hoarse.
Thankfully the cemetery path finally widened onto some proper road with regular streetlamps, and ahead of us were some buildings with plenty of light. The boyfriend drove like a mad person towards it and we discovered that it was some columbarium with quite a large Buddha beside it.

Thankfully the huge crowd of “people” did not come out of the cemetery area and once the aura subsided, I slowly recovered, panting painfully for air. My girlfriend was breathing rather heavily too and her voice was rather shaky as she slapped her boyfriend’s arm and thoroughly ticked him off.

For me I simply do not have the energy to berate him and I slumped in the backseat utterly depleted and exhausted.

The three of us drove to a petrol kiosk and parked there until dawn whereby I told them to drive to the wet market area. We each bought a packet of those flower petals and went home to shower in those to wash out any lingering bad luck and taint.

Overall it was an experience I never ever want to relive again

SGTOP10 : What time do they usually appear?
YT: I tend to see them mostly from 10pm onwards on days outside of the Hungry Ghost Festival.

SGTOP10: How do they move?
YT: Glide. They are not subjected to the same forces as we do.

SGTOP10: if there is one question u will ask them, what will u ask ?
YT: Is this the Afterlife?

SGTOP10 : Since this is a SGTOP10 interview series, can you list 10 things we didn’t know about our “friends”?
1. Yes they come in colours though very faint
2. If a deceased family member come to you in a dream, it might/can mean that he/she is trying to tell you that someone else in the family is following soon.(happened to me before)
3. They generally wanted to be left alone. “Excursions” to haunted houses are not at all welcomed by them.
4. They roam everywhere during Hungry Ghost Festival. Even to Orchard Road!
5. They know if you can see them.
6. They don’t talk or communicate like what you see on movies.
7. A person without the ability to see them will develop a sharpened sense of detecting them if he/she keeps hanging out with someone who can see.
8. They are not visible entirely. You can’t just “see” them with the naked eye alone.
9. Generally it takes a really angry friend to make things move about.
10. Just like living people, they come in all shapes and sizes… and dispositions. Some are just simply nasty.
